Thirty-five miles south of the Kona airport, Hale Mele Kohola is close to many points of interest. A few streets below is Pebble Beach. Ten minutes away by car is secluded Ho’okena Beach. Twenty minutes will take you to The Place of Refuge (Pu’uhonua o Honaunau), an historic site also ideal for picnicking, hiking, and swimming. Snorkel nearby in the waters of Two-Step.

From Hale Mele Kohola it is twenty-five minutes to South Point, fifty-five minutes to Na'alehu where one can still see the monkey pod tree planted by Mark Twain; and ninety minutes to Volcano National Park. Hilo is a mere half an hour more from Volcano National Park.
